Royal Dublin Society
The Royal Dublin Society (RDS, Irish Cumann Ríoga Bhaile Atha Cliath ) was founded on June 25, 1731 as a society for the advancement of agriculture, art, industry and science in Ireland . It emerged from the Dublin Philosophical Society , the Irish counterpart to the London Royal Society . The company maintains a complex with ten halls of various sizes and a sports arena in Dublin .
Halls and sports facilities
In addition to eight smaller halls that can be used for concerts and trade fairs, there are three larger venues:
- The RDS Main Hall is mainly used as an exhibition hall.
- RDS Simmonscourt is a trade fair and concert hall for 7,000 spectators, in which the Eurovision Song Contest took place in 1981 and 1988 .
- The RDS Arena is a sports arena for football , rugby and equestrian sports . Open-air concerts were also held here, including with Bruce Springsteen , Metallica , Bon Jovi and U2 .
