The Royal Enfield Himalayan is a travel enduro motorcycle from the Indian manufacturer Royal Enfield, which is part of the Eicher Group .
It was developed with the help of Harris Performance Products, a British engineering company that develops racing motorcycles and parts and is now part of Royal Enfield.
The Himalayan is primarily intended for the Indian market and is therefore designed more for unpaved roads than for high top speed. In Europe it was presented at the EICMA 2016 motorcycle fair in Milan.
drive
For the Himalayan, Royal Enfield designed a new air-cooled single-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft . It is driven by a chain and actuates the diagonally opposite (in V-shape) hanging valves via rocker arms . With a stroke of 86 mm and a bore of 78 mm , the engine has a displacement of 411 cm³ and a maximum output of 18 kW (24.5 hp) at 6000 rpm. The engine and the five-speed gearbox are combined in a common housing. The multi-plate clutch runs in an oil bath. The rear wheel is driven by a chain. The tank holds 15 l.
Frame and chassis
The Himalayan has a semi-double loop tube frame (with a forked down tube). The seat height is 800 mm for the rider, the pillion seat is a little higher. Holders are provided for panniers. A 41-mm telescopic fork with 200 mm of travel guides the front wheel, the rear wheel is a rocker with mono strut and 180 mm travel installed. The front wheel has the tire size 90/90 - 21 ", the rear wheel 120/90 - 17". This results in a ground clearance of 220 mm. There are disc brakes on both wheels, 300 mm in diameter at the front and 200 or 240 mm at the rear, depending on the source. The brake works with a two-channel anti-lock braking system.
