Royal Heracles Hockey Club
The Royal Herakles Hockey Club is a Belgian hockey club from Lier, a good 10 km southeast of Antwerp . The club was founded in 1933 by alumni of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-College in Antwerp and has the trunk number 706 at the Belgian hockey association KBHB. In Herakles HC, who play in blue and white striped jerseys, white shorts and red socks, over 1100 members play hockey. In addition to the eight men's and four women's teams, there are also almost 50 youth, leisure and senior teams. The club area is located around two kilometers northwest of the city center of Lier and includes two artificial turf fields and a small artificial turf field.
After the founding, Herakles played at Wilrijkseplein and in Zurenborg. From 1934 the club settled in the Meyerlei in Mortsel , where the soccer field and the associated clubhouse were made available to the Herakles commercial bank. Over time, the number of members grew and the desire for their own space arose. The club management managed to acquire land in Lier and three lawns could be created. In 1966 today's clubhouse was built. In the 1970s a tennis and bridge department was established, the facility of which is located in Berchem .

The Herakles men's team will play in the top Belgian league, the Eredivise, for the 2017/18 season. After the greatest success in the club's history, winning the Belgian championship in 1998, the team rose from the first class in 2005 and 2009, but both returned directly to the upper house. In the 2016/17 season, Heracles reached the championship play-offs with second place after the preliminary round. In the semifinals, the team retained the upper hand against Racing Brussels 5: 3 and 3: 2 and moved into the finals of the championship, but clearly lost them with 1: 5 in the first leg in front of the home crowd and 1: 4 in the second leg against defending champions KHC Dragons . Against this opponent, the team contested the final in 2000.
Herakles made his first European participation in 1991 at the first staging of the second-rate EuroHockey Cup Winners Trophy, where the Eagles HC from Gibraltar could be defeated in the final . In 1999 the second European Cup participation followed at the Champions Cup , in which all four games were lost, which resulted in Belgium being relegated to the trophy for the following season. With the national runner-up in 2017, Herakles took part in the European Cup again after 19 years, where the team defeated four-time European Cup winner Atlètic Terrassa from Spain 4-2 in the round of 16 of the Euro Hockey League and with a victory after a shoot-out over the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona reached the Final4 in Bloemendaal .
