The Little Pienins (Polish: Małe Pieniny ) are a mountain range in the Pieninen mountain range in the Polish Lesser Poland Voivodeship in the Powiat Nowotarski district in the Szczawnica municipality .

location

The mountains are located north of the Spiš Magura , south of the Sandets Beskids (border is the Grajcarek mountain river ) and east of the Middle Pienines (border is the Dunajec breakthrough ), in the Pieninen mountain range . It has the character of a low mountain range . The highest point is 1050 m. above sea level is the Wysokie Skałki .

geology

The Kleine Pieninen consist largely of limestone from the Jura. Jagged limestone cliffs can be found especially on their northern edge.

nature

The mountains have a rich flora and fauna. On the Slovak side there is the Pienin National Park in the Little Pieninese. On the Polish side, the Little Pienins are located outside the Pienin National Park . In the Little Pienines, however, there are numerous nature reserves on the Polish side:

tourism

The Kleine Pieninen are densely populated and developed for tourism. There are health resorts such as Szczawnica , Szlachtowa or Jaworki , as well as ski areas such as the Palenica ski area or the Jaworki-Homole ski area . Cable cars lead to the mountains and there is a dense network of marked hiking trails. From the alpine pastures there are wide panoramic views of the surrounding mountains up to the Tatra Mountains .
