The Wysokie Skałki is a mountain in the Little Pienines , a mountain range of the Pienines , with 1050 m. above sea level on the Polish - Slovak border. The summit is the highest point of the Little Pienines and of the entire Pieninen mountain range.

Location and surroundings

The Wysokie Skałki lies in the main ridge of the Pienines. To the north lies the Grajcanek valley , which separates the Little Pienines from the Sandets Beskids .

etymology

The Polish name Wysokie Skałki can be translated as High Rock .

Flora and fauna

The Wysokie Skałki has a colorful flora and fauna. It is partly overgrown with mixed forest, but there are also mountain meadows. The mountain lies on the Polish side outside the Pieniny National Park . On its northern slopes there is the Jaworki-Homole ski area and the Wąwóz Homole nature reserve in the gorge of the same name. On the Slovak side, the mountain is located in the Pieniny National Park .

Ascents

Unlike the Tatra Mountains, the Pienines did not glaciate in the last ice ages. In the Pieninen there are therefore human traces that go back to the Paleolithic. It is very likely that the peaks were already climbed at this time, as the ascent is not particularly difficult.

The Wysokie Skałki offer a view of the surrounding mountain ranges of the Middle Pienines , the Spiš Magura , the Tatras and the Beskydy Mountains .
