Royal Order of Victoria and Albert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Royal Order of Victoria and Albert is part of the British Honor System and Royal Family Order of Great Britain founded by Queen Victoria on February 10, 1862 . After the Queen's death in 1901, the award was no longer awarded.

The medal, which was bestowed exclusively on women, went to persons who had personally served the Majesty. These were mostly members of the royal court and family members. The bearers of the order, so-called companions, are allowed to wear the initials VA (so-called "post nominal") after their name, but no other privileges have been granted to them. The number of bearers of the order was not limited - the last living holder of the order was Alice, Countess of Athlone (1883-1981).
