Ruși ( Ger . Reußen , Hungarian Rüsz or more rarely Oroszfalu ) is a village in Transylvania ( Romania ).

geography

View of the town center with the characteristic leaning church tower.

The village is located between Slimnic ( Stolzenburg ) and Șeica Mare ( Marktschelken ), north of the district capital Sibiu ( Hermannstadt ), in the middle of the district of the same name.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1424. Romanians settled in the originally Transylvanian-Saxon village from the end of the 17th century . At the end of the 19th century the German-speaking and the Romanian population were balanced, and since the beginning of the 20th century the village has been mostly inhabited by Romanians.

In 1947 the village was administratively connected to the large community Slimnic ( Stolzenburg ).

Church and leaning tower

The current Protestant church dates from 1636 and was built in place of a church that was originally dedicated to Saint Luke and probably dates from the 14th century .

The bell tower of the Protestant church (built in 1749) has been clearly lopsided since a landslide in 1858.
