Rubén Azócar

Rubén Azócar (born May 25, 1901 in Arauco , Chile , † April 9, 1965 in Santiago ) was a Chilean poet and novelist.

Life

Rubén Azócar studied education and was a Spanish teacher at various state schools. He later also taught Spanish literature at the Universidad de Chile . He achieved great prestige through his poetry and became President of the Society of Chilean Writers. His poems depict the landscape and the people of the south of his country in an intimate language. In 1931 he published the widely acclaimed anthology La poesía chilena moderna (Eng. New Chilean Poetry) with works by young authors. Although the majority of his work consists of poetry, the novel Gente de la isla , for which he received several awards and which has also been published outside his country, was by far his greatest success. His poems are published in anthologies to this day.
