Rubén Juarez

Rubén Juárez (born November 5, 1947 in Ballesteros , Córdoba , † May 31, 2010 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine singer , bandoneonist and composer of tango music .

Juárez 'parents moved with Rubén two years after his birth to Buenos Aires, where he got his first bandoneon lessons at the age of six.

At the age of nine Rubén made his debut as a bandoneonist in the Orchester de Clubs Independiente, where he played for three years. He started singing at different penias and clubs at the same time. He also played with various rock bands before devoting himself entirely to tango.

In 1962 Juárez won a prize for the best tango singer in the “La Huella del Tango” canteen. This first experience and the death of his idol Julio Sosa led him to become a tanguero. He met Héctor Arbelo , Julio Sosa's former guitarist, and toured Argentina with him.

Horacio Quintana , the famous singer of Lucio Demare , became aware of him and brought him to the most famous tango club of the time, the Cano 14, in 1969. He got a contract with the Odeon label in 1969 and appeared on the TV show Sabados Circulares, through which he appeared nationwide got known. Rubén Juárez worked with tango musicians such as Carlos García , Armando Pontier , Raúl Garello , Roberto Grela and Leopoldo Federico . For years, Juárez ran the Cafe Homero in Buenos Aires, where important tango musicians such as Roberto Goyeneche performed.

Rubén Juárez as a tango maker was most recently a hub between tradition and the new generations of tango. He also performed with rock stars and dominated a tango style that is his singing deeply mentally and simultaneously virtuosic and full of rhythm in his bandoneon game. In recent years he no longer had the crystal clear voice of his younger years, but gained a lot of depth and expressiveness.

Rubén Juárez died on May 31, 2010 in a hospital in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires.
