Ruby Muhammad

Ruby Muhammad , actually Ruby Macie Grayer (born March 20, 1907 in Sandersville , Georgia , † March 2, 2011 in Sacramento , California ) was an important member of the Muslim organization Nation of Islam .

Career

She grew up in Americus , Georgia. When she joined the Nation of Islam in 1946, her life took a sudden turn. She became enthusiastic about the teachings of Islam , which gave her support and orientation, took an interest in international affairs and traveled the world doing business on behalf of the nation. In doing so, she rose to become a highly respected personality in the nation. In 1986 she named Leader Louis Farrakhan Mother of the Nation of Islam.

She was married twice and had four children. When she died, she was residing in Sacramento , California . She previously lived in Saint Paul, Minnesota and San Francisco .

Ruby Muhammad always gave the year 1897 as the date of birth and accordingly celebrated her 110th birthday in 2007. However, research in the US census has revealed that she was only born in 1907.
