Rudi Schall

Rudi Schall (born November 29, 1913 in Neuruppin ; † July 26, 2002 in Überlingen ) was a German physicist who researched in the field of detonics .

Life

Schall studied physics, mathematics and chemistry at the Technical University in Berlin. In 1935 he was promoted to Dr. rer nat. PhD.

From 1949 he worked at the Franco-German Research Institute (ISL) in Saint Louis in the field of X-ray flash photography and shock wave physics. Between 1962 and 1969 he was director of the NATO Science Division in Paris. In 1969 he returned to the ISL and became his successor after the retirement of the German director Richard Emil Kutterer . After Schall retired in 1979, he remained connected to Detonics and served as an honorary director of the Carl Cranz Society in Weil am Rhein . He was also a member of the editorial board of the journal Propellants Explosives Pyrotechnics and a founding member of theClub of Rome .
