Rudi Thömmes

Rudi Thömmes (born December 17, 1968 in Trier ) is a former German soccer player . With the shirt number 10 he played for a long time in the midfield of Eintracht Trier .

Like his brother Harald, Rudi Thömmes learned to play football at Eintracht Trier. At a young age, he won the German amateur championship in 1989 with the then south-west upper division . Thömmes first had contact with professional football in the 1989/90 season, when he played nine second division games at SV Darmstadt 98 and scored two goals. After a few years with the then top division club FSV Salmrohr , he moved back to Eintracht Trier in 1997 . In 1997/98 he reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup with Eintracht . Thömmes scored one goal for the then regional league team in the victories against the UEFA Cup winners FC Schalke 04 (1-0) and one round later against the Champions League winners Borussia Dortmund (2-1). With that, at the latest, his status as a public favorite was established.

Until 2002 he played with Eintracht Trier in the regional league and was one of the pillars of promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . In the two following seasons he was in the second highest German division 39 times and scored two more goals.

In 2004 he retired from professional football. In the 2004/05 season he trained the B-Juniors of Eintracht together with Stephan Zwaag; In the same year he played with his brothers Harald and Frank at SV Sirzenich . In the 2006/07 season he was the player -coach of the A-Kreisliga club SG Osburg / Thomm , where he had also taken his assistant coach from Trier, Stephan Zwaag, with him. After he had made promotion to the district league with the syndicate, he switched to SV Mehring as a coach for the 2007/08 season . There he immediately made it to the Rhineland League and established the club there in the top group. After his contract in Mehring had not been extended over the 2009/10 season, he was hired as an assistant coach for the regional league club Eintracht Trier in the 2010/11 season. At the same time he is also a player in the A-class at the SG Ehrang-Pfalzel , again together with his brothers. In 2018 he switched to the regional league club SV Elversberg as assistant coach .

Thömmes lives with his family in Trier-Ehrang .
