During the Second World War and in the following years he hosted the Karlsbader Hütte . Rudl Eller was a founding member of the Lienzer Alpenverein and the Alpine Society of Alpenraute.

The Ellerturm on the Laserzkopf and the Rudl-Eller-Weg from the Dolomitenhütte over the Hohe Törl to the Karlsbader Hütte were named after Rudl Eller.
