Rudolf Battig

Rudolf Battig (born June 28, 1883 in Heidersdorf , Province of Silesia , † April 12, 1957 in Essen ) was a German mining engineer and manager who stood out primarily as the general director of the Sodingen gas processing company .

Life

After attending school, Rudolf Battig studied the mountain subject and was appointed mountain referendar in 1906 after passing the first state examination . After four years he passed the 2nd state examination and was appointed mountain assessor . As such, he worked at the Mont Cenis coal mine in Sodingen from 1910 , interrupted by his active participation in the First World War from 1914 to 1917. After returning to Sodingen, he became chairman of the board of directors of the Mont Cenis colliery union and from 1922 to 1927 general director of the Gas processing company mbH Sodingen.

During his time at the Mont Cenis colliery in 1921 there was a severe firedamp explosion with 85 fatalities. Another serious mining accident occurred in 1931 with 19 deaths. In 1932 he resigned the chairmanship of the board of directors and worked as a freelance mining expert in Essen until 1954 . As a major in the reserve , he was called up again for military service after the outbreak of World War II. In 1941 he returned from the war.

Rudolf Battig was also a member of the supervisory board of Maxhütte in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Ruhrgas AG , Chemischen Fabrik Flörsheim and AG Wasserwerk for the northern Westphalian coal field in Gelsenkirchen . He was also in possession of several patents , for example for a process for rendering the dust harmless from drilling, grinding, polishing or the like.

He lived in Essen- Bredeney in Haus Schauinsland , Weg zur Platte 21.

Honors

Today's Granitstrasse in Herne was called Rudolfstrasse between 1921 and 1974 after Rudolf Battig .
