Rudolf Beerbohm (born November 3, 1941 in Willershusen ; † June 1, 2018 ) was a German eventing and show jumping rider .

Life

As the son of a farmer, Beerbohm grew up in Western Pomerania during and after the war. His uncle bred horses, and he was in contact with horses through the LPG : Here, Beerbohm could ride the horses on weekends, which were harnessed to the wagons on weekdays .

He came to Gestüt Halle-Kreuz through the Society for Sport and Technology . Here he learned the job of inseminator for cattle, and he was also able to practice equestrian sport under the training of Oskar Piehl. In 1965 Rudolf Beerbohm was GDR champion in show jumping.

In the following year Beerbohm moved to SC Dynamo Hoppegarten , where Otto Fiege (GDR champion in show jumping 1959 and 1960) was his trainer. In that year he was runner-up in show jumping and also won competitions in neighboring countries. In 1971 Rudolf Beerbohm won another GDR championship in the military (eventing riding). In this discipline he was also nominated for the 1972 Olympic Games . Here Beerbohm was the most successful rider of the GDR military team. In the individual ranking he came in 11th.

After these Olympic Games, the targeted support for equestrian sports in the GDR ended. Like his trainer Otto Fiege, Rudolf Beerbohm moved to Rathenow . He took up his job as an insider there again. In sports he competed for Traktor Gülpe . In show jumping he made 16 starts in Nations Cups , and in 1985 he ended his career as an athlete. After 1990 he was subsequently awarded the Golden Riding Badge by the German Equestrian Association for his successes.
