Life

Bohnstedt attended the humanistic department of the German Reformed School in St. Petersburg. In 1919 he returned to Germany. He studied medicine in Marburg and Munich and passed the medical state examination in Munich in 1925. The following year he received his license to practice medicine. After a practical year in Dresden and three months as a ship's doctor on the MS Duisburg, he took up a position as an assistant doctor at the University Dermatology Clinic in Marburg on January 1, 1927. From August 1928 to February 1935 he worked under Leo von Zumbusch at the University Dermatology Clinic in Munich.

His habilitation in 1935 was not recognized for political and racial reasons. As a result, he settled in Dresden as a specialist and came to Berlin in 1939. There, on July 1, 1945, he became a doctor in charge of the dermatological department of the police hospital and from autumn 1946 taught dermatology at the University of Berlin. In 1948 he temporarily took over the medical management of the University Dermatology Clinic in Marburg. After rehabilitation, he was appointed adjunct professor in Marburg in March 1949. In 1950 he moved to Giessen as professor and director of the University Dermatology Clinic.
