Rudolf Cvetko (born November 17, 1880 in Senožeče , Austrian coastal region , today Slovenia , † December 15, 1977 in Ljubljana ) was a Slovenian fencer .
Life
Rudolf Cvetko took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm for the delegation of Cisleithania . He was the first Slovenian to take part in the Olympic Games and also the first to win a medal. With the saber team he reached the final round, in which they only had to admit defeat to the Hungarian team and thus secured the silver medal. In the individual of the foil fencing he was eliminated in the first round.
Cvetko served as a soldier in an infantry regiment until 1913 before he took up a position as a sports teacher. With the beginning of the First World War he returned to active service and remained in the military until 1926. He then remained connected to the sport of fencing and from 1945 concentrated on working with young talent in Slovenia. In his honor, Slovenia issued a 3 euro coin with his name and fencing symbols on it.
