Rudolf Echt

Rudolf Echt (born September 9, 1950 in Völklingen - Wehrden ) is a German prehistorian .

Life

After graduating from high school in the summer of 1968, he first studied art history and German at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken from the winter semester 1968/69 . After an interruption due to military service from 1969 to 1971, he took up the study of art history again and chose prehistory and early history , medieval history and historical auxiliary sciences as further subjects. After receiving his doctorate in 1979 as Dr. phil. In art history, he took up the position of a research assistant at Saarland University in the then department of Prehistory and Early History and Near Eastern Archeology , which was headed by Rolf Hachmann . He worked on the institute's excavation project on the Tell Kāmid el-Lōz settlement hill in Lebanon , in which he had participated as a student since 1972. In 1984 he published an important paper on the stratigraphy of the settlement mound. After obtaining his habilitation in 1992 in prehistory and early history of the Celtic princess grave of Reinheim , he held a teaching position at the University of Metz in 1999 . In 2004 he was appointed adjunct professor at Saarland University. He has been retired since October 2017.

His main research interests are pre-Roman iron age, paleometallurgy and prehistoric and early historical art.

Echt is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute.
