Rudolf Eckert (trade unionist)

Rudolf ("Rudi") Eckert (born June 15, 1911 in Potschappel , † July 19, 1952 in Leipzig ) was a German politician ( SPD / SED ) and trade unionist . He was chairman of the FDGB state executive committee for Saxony .

Life

Eckert, son of a bricklayer , also completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer after primary school . He then worked in the profession. Later he attended technical colleges Dresden , where he the exam for technicians 1938 Civil and underground engineering took off.

Since 1926 he was a member of the German Building Trade Association (DBB), since 1929 of the SPD. He was the youth leader of the DBB and a member of the municipal council in Gittersee . Between 1941 and 1945 he did military service in the Wehrmacht .

After 1945 he was a member of the SPD again, and in 1946 he became a member of the SED. From October 1945 Eckert worked full-time for the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB). From December 1945 to August 1952 he was a member of the FDGB regional executive committee for Saxony . From January 1946 he was second, from May 1947 to October 1948 first chairman of the FDGB state board of Saxony. In 1947/48 he was also a member of the FDGB federal executive committee.

From 1946 to 1950 Eckert was a member of the Saxon State Parliament and chairman of the Committee for Economics and Transport, from March to October 1948 he was also a member of the People's Council (MdVR).

After violent internal party attacks, he resigned from his trade union functions in October 1948 and resigned his mandate from the People's Council. Eckert then took on a managerial role in the state- owned construction industry in Saxony.

He died in a car accident in 1952. He was married and has a daughter and a son.
