Rudolf Fechter

Rudolf Fechter (born May 20, 1912 in Karlsruhe , † 1990 ) was a German diplomat .

Life

Rudolf Fechter studied history at the Universities of Innsbruck , Frankfurt am Main , Vienna and Heidelberg and received his doctorate in philology. From 1937 to 1939 he was a teacher in the Baden Ministry of Culture. From 1939 to 1949 he lived in Spain mainly in Madrid . From 1945 to 1949 he was a lecturer in Madrid. From 1949 to 1952 he was the foreign policy editor and deputy editor-in-chief of Rheinischer Merkur .

In 1953 he entered the foreign service and since September 1960 he has been Consul General in Damascus , Syria , which at that time was a member of the United Arab Republic . From 1964 to 1969 he was first class counselor in Paris . From 1969 to 1973 he was ambassador to Addis Ababa .
