Rudolf Hartung (writer)
Rudolf Hartung (born December 9, 1914 in Munich , † February 19, 1985 in Berlin ) was a German poet, writer and literary critic.
Life and literary creation
Hartung studied psychology, philosophy and new German literary history in Munich. He moved to Berlin in 1955 and edited the “Neue Deutsche Hefte” together with Joachim Günther there until 1961 . From 1963 to 1979 he was co-editor and editor-in-chief of the Neue Rundschau . The "Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts" recognized him for the "special productivity of an editorial work" with a literature prize in 1970.
In his numerous literary essays and dialogues, his interpretations were often based on the writers' letters and diaries without prejudice. He dealt with the works of Gottfried Benn , Johannes Bobrowski , Elias Canetti , Paul Celan , James Joyce and Franz Kafka , among others .
