Rudolf Kargl (born January 4, 1878 in Vienna , † April 28, 1942 in Mödling ) was an Austrian portrait and landscape painter .

Life

Rudolf Kargl studied painting under Franz von Matsch at the Vienna Art Academy . From 1912 he was a member of the Austrian Association of Artists founded in 1906 by Gustav Klimt and others . He exhibited regularly and with great sales success in the Vienna Künstlerhaus and also in the Munich Glass Palace . The majority of his works are now in the possession of private and public collections.

Work

Kargl also dealt with portraits and still lifes , but he was best known for his landscape paintings and graphics . Kargl found his motifs in villages and towns , lake, mountain and snow landscapes in Austria , northern Italy and Switzerland . Kargl also drew people, such as skiers or soldiers, as part of the impressive landscapes in which they moved.

Kargl's drawings were used for postcards from the Red Cross and the Austrian War Welfare Office during the First World War .
