Rudolf Oberhauser (geologist)

Rudolf Oberhauser (born September 14, 1926 in Götzis , Vorarlberg , † August 5, 2008 ) was an Austrian geologist.

Oberhauser studied at the University of Innsbruck (in addition to geology, psychology and philosophy) and received his doctorate there in 1951 on the geology of part of the Bregenzerwald (geology of the area between Canisfluh and Hohem Ifen ). He also dealt with micropaleontology for the stratigraphic classification of the strata (especially with foraminifera ), which he deepened in two years at the Geological Institute of Turkey in Ankara . From 1955 he was at the Geological Federal Institute in Vienna , where he dealt particularly with Vorarlberg. In 1998 he published a tectonic overview map of Vorarlberg on a scale of 1: 200,000 (the geological map 1: 100,000 followed in 2008). In 1980 he was editor of the book Der Geologische Aufbaus Österreichs of the Federal Geological Institute.

He also dealt with imparting geological knowledge in a manner suitable for laypeople, supervised excursions and created a geological nature trail in his home community. In 1991 he received the gold medal of the Slovak Geological Service and in 1993 the Eduard Sueß commemorative coin of the Austrian Geological Society , of which he was an honorary member. In 1993 he became an honorary member of the Upper Rhine Geological Association (OGV) . In 2007 he received the Great Merit Sign of the State of Vorarlberg.
