Rudolf Odebrecht (born March 9, 1883 in Berlin ; † May 31, 1945 there ) was a German philosopher .

Life

In 1902, the son of the insurance officer Paul Odebrecht (1839–1909) passed his Abitur at the renowned Friedrichs-Gymnasium Berlin and then studied mathematics and philosophy until 1906 in Berlin. He completed his doctorate at the University of Erlangen . The planned habilitation failed due to lack of money. From 1910 to 1945 he worked in higher education with the subjects mathematics and physics at various Berlin high schools. He was committed to introducing philosophy to high school. In addition, he conducted philosophical studies with a focus on aesthetics . In 1931 he published Friedrich Schleiermacher's Aesthetics . He completed his habilitation in Berlin in 1931 with Max Dessoir . There he received an adjunct professorship in 1939 with the recommendation of Eduard Spranger .

Odebrecht was admitted to the NSDAP on April 1, 1933 at his request in February . At times he was then chairman of the Nazi movement at the Berlin seminar. In 1935 he was replaced for health reasons. Several times he assured his sincere National Socialist sentiments, presumably in order to finally be exempted from school service. He promised to write a "species-specific" history of philosophy. Until the end of the war he was not heard and was considered too old for new tasks.
