Rudolf Prokschi

Rudolf Prokschi (born September 9, 1953 in Asparn an der Zaya ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic church historian .

Life

From 1972 to 1977 he studied Catholic theology at the University of Vienna, where he obtained a Magister Theologiae . After being ordained a priest in June 1978 in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna , he was chaplain in the Altlerchenfeld parish church from 1978 to 1981 and taught at the Albertgymnasium. At Ernst Christoph Suttner he was from 1981 to 1987 Assistant Professor of Patristic and Eastern Churches. From 1983 to 1988 he was prefect of studies at the Vienna seminary . After receiving his doctorate in July / October 1988, he was pastor in Ober Sankt Veit from 1988 to 1996 . From September 1996 to June 1998 he had a study visit to Moscow (work in the State Archives of the Russian Federation / pastor for the German-speaking Catholic community in Moscow). He represented the Chair of Eastern Church History and Ecumenical Theology from 1998 to 2001 at the University of Würzburg , where from 2001 to 2003 he was a specialist in the subject of Eastern Church History and Ecumenical Theology . During the theological academic year in 2001 and 2003 he taught at the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem . From 2001 to 2002 he lectured at the Institute for Ecumenical Studies at the University of Friborg . In the 2003/2004 winter semester he was a lecturer at the Institute for Theology and History of the Christian East in Vienna , where he has been teaching since April 2004 as a university professor for Patrology and Eastern Church Studies and is head of the Institute for Theology and History of the Christian East. From October to December 2009 he researched literature in Rome and gave a lecture during the theological academic year in Jerusalem ( research semester ). On September 1, 2010, he was awarded a canonical Rudolphinischer Stiftung (member of the cathedral chapter of St. Stephan, Vienna). In October 2010 he gave a lecture during the Theological Academic Year in Jerusalem. He is the dean of the Vienna cathedral chapter.

  • Chairman of the Commission for Ecumenical Issues in the Archdiocese of Vienna
  • Member of the Ecumenical Commission of the Austrian Bishops' Conference
  • Press spokesman for the World Council of Churches in Austria
  • Member of the advisory board of the contact point for world religions of Austria. BIKO

His main research interests are participation in the ecumenical-ecclesiological research project of the Eastern Church Institute at the University of Würzburg on the topic of the one church and the problem of double hierarchies , research into the pastoral reform concerns of the State Council of the Russian Orthodox Church of 1917/18 on the basis of archive materials and cooperation on international and interdenominational issues Research project on the Union of Brest 1595/96.
