Rudolf Reuter (shipbuilder)

Marcus August Rudolf Reuter (* December 2, 1834 , † September 25, 1871 ) was a German shipbuilder and entrepreneur .

Life

Rudolf Reuter was the second son of the organ builder Andreas Reuter , his brother was Conrad Reuter . He was married to Henriette Johanna Dorothea nee Boysen (1840–1926) from Itzehoe .

Reuter was a co-founder of the shipbuilding workshop Reuter & Ihms in Kiel (1842-1885), which in 1889 became part of Howaldtswerke AG . In addition to the former shipyard on Seegarten (west bank), he acquired the area north of the Schwentine estuary as an expansion for iron shipbuilding, where Georg Howaldt started his shipyard in 1876, but had an accident in a boat accident before his plans were carried out in 1871.

In 1889 the city of Kiel decided to build a public garden with jetties, a ferry hall and the “Seegarten” restaurant on the former shipyard site.
