Rudolf "Caesar" Sabetzer (born June 28, 1934 , † July 25, 1983 in Grünau im Almtal , Austria ) was an Austrian national soccer player . He played in particular for FK Austria Wien and ASK Linz .

Career

At the beginning of his career, Rudolf Sabetzer played mainly in the runner row, but was later also used more offensively as a connector. He scored a total of 109 goals in the highest Austrian league . He made his debut for Vienna Austria in 1953/54 , after having started his career at 1. Schwechater SC . Rudolf Sabetzer was a regular for six seasons for the violets until 1959, but during this time they could not get beyond the midfield of the league due to the turbulence in the area.

In April 1956 he even played an international match against Brazil under Karl Geyer . Rudolf Sabetzer brought Austria into the lead, but was substituted early afterwards, but soon came on again. He scored another goal to make it 2-2, but in the end Didi scored the winning goal for the Brazilians three minutes before the end.

In 1959, Rudolf Sabetzer switched to ASK Linz and rose to become captain there. In 1962 he was able to become runner- up with the team - behind Austria - and in 1963 they reached the ÖFB Cup final , which also went to Austria. In the end it worked for the connector with a big title win: in 1965 Rudolf Sabetzer even achieved the double with the LASK. During his time in Linz, he also made two appearances in the national team: in 1962 against Bulgaria and in 1965 against the Soviet Union .

After seven years in Linz, Rudolf Sabetzer returned to Vienna in 1966 and joined SC Wacker Vienna . After relegation to the Regionalliga Ost , he moved on to Carinthia, where he also missed relegation with WSG Radenthein in 1968. After finishing his professional career, the former connector worked as a tax officer in Vienna and, as a trainer, looked after the FAC and ESV Ostbahn XI with the young Herbert Prohaska . He was also the supervisor of the Austrian U23 national team, but he resigned in April 1976.
