Rudolf Schering (born February 16, 1843 in Berlin ; † August 1, 1901 there ) was a German naval officer , most recently vice admiral .

Life

Schering entered the Prussian Navy as a cadet aspirant on June 21, 1858 and went to sea on Gefion , Thetis and Grille . On October 1, 1859, he came to the Naval Cadet Institute (Berlin) , and on May 15, 1860 to Amazone . From October 1, 1860 as a midshipman at the midshipman's institute for eight months, he was transferred to Comet in June 1861 , then to Hela , Barbarossa and Gazelle . Then another six months at the Naval Cadet Institute, on July 5, 1865, he became an officer on watch on the Comet. On December 9th of the same year he became a company officer in the main division of the Baltic Sea Fleet for three months. After two months as an officer on watch on the Hertha , he became first officer on the Cyclop in May 1866 . After serving as a lieutenant in the sea watch officer on the Niobe from October 1866 to May 1869 , he joined the artillery inspection commission in Berlin on May 30, 1869 for a year .

From June 1870 to April 1871, as a lieutenant captain, he was again an officer on watch for King Wilhelm , Arminius and Elisabeth , then first officer for Musquito and in the ship's boy division. From April 22, 1873, he drove the rovers as commander for a year and a half . On October 1, 1874, he was commanded to serve in the Imperial Admiralty . As a corvette captain he was there from April 1875 to November 1878 department head for war readiness and mobilization of the fleet and for commissioning. Most recently he also represented the Board of Directors of the Central Department.

On November 20, 1878, he was in command of the smooth-deck Corvette Luise for exactly two years . In the summer of 1879 he was also the senior naval officer on the East Asian station . On November 21, 1880, he returned to the Admiralty, first as a department head for personnel affairs, then as a sea ​​captain from September 30, 1881 as head of the central department. On April 16, 1884 he came to the Elisabeth as commandant for two years . In the meantime, in the first half of 1885, he was again the longest serving naval officer on the East Asian station.

On April 14, 1886 he was again commanded to serve in the Admiralty. From September 7th, 1886 he was appointed director of the naval education system and director of the naval academy and school (Kiel) on September 21st, 1886 . Promoted to Rear Admiral on April 27, 1889 , he was put up for disposition after four years on October 14, 1890 as a characterized Vice Admiral .

Rudolf Schering died on August 1, 1901 at the age of 58 in Berlin. He was buried in the local cemetery III of the Jerusalem and New Church in front of the Hallesches Tor . A high cross on a base made of black granite serves as a grave marker.
