Rudolf Schwarte

Rudolf Schwarte (born January 8, 1939 in Quakenbrück ) is a professor of communications engineering and was head of the Institute for Communications Processing (INV) at the University of Siegen ; He is considered the father of "fast" 3D vision.

education

Schwarte grew up in Quakenbrück, where he attended Artland High School until 1959 . After graduating from high school , he studied communications engineering at RWTH Aachen University , where he then worked as a research assistant and chief engineer.

Professional activities

In 1978 Schwarte went into the private sector and was a founding member of Keiber GmbH & Co. in Kaiserslautern . After the company failed to succeed, he worked from 1980 to 1981 as head of development at Mitec GmbH & Co. in Ottobrunn .

In 1981 he was appointed professor at the Institute for Information Processing (INV) at the University of Siegen , where he researched and taught until 2007. During this time, Schwarte produced numerous academic students who are now active in the private sector and in some cases as professors themselves, including Otmar Loffeld , Bernhard Bundschuh , Rüdiger Klein .

In 1988 he founded the interdisciplinary center for sensor systems NRW (ZESS), in 1997 the company S-TEC, today pmdtechnologies ag, which dealt with spatial image sensors .

With more than 50 patents, Rudolf Schwarte is one of the world's leading researchers in his discipline.

Schwarte lives with his family in Netphen .

Memberships and honors (selection)

Schwarte has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the Heidelberg Image Processing Forum since 1995 , and he was appointed to the “Optical Form Detection” working group by the VDI and VDE .

Schwarte received the Bennigsen Foerder Prize in 1986, 1991 and 1992 for his scientific commitment . The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia awarded him the innovation prize in 1995 and 1997. In 2005 he was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
