Life

Weser attended the grammar school and Konvikt zu Rottweil and the Wilhelmsstift in Tübingen . Ordained a priest in 1892, he first worked in Ludwigsburg , Feuerbach / Zuffenhausen and in 1896 as city parish administrator in Weilderstadt. In 1897 he became a chaplain in Schwäbisch Gmünd, where he stayed until 1912. Then he was the parish priest in Söflingen . For health reasons he had to retire in Straßdorf near Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1932, where he died of a gallbladder infection and was buried. In 1939 he was awarded the silver medal of the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd. In addition, a street in Straßdorf is named after him.

For the Schwäbisch Gmünd city archivist Albert Deibele , in 1971 he was “by far the most important Gmünd local researcher”. Weser dealt with the history of the imperial city of Schwäbisch Gmünd in numerous essays that are captivating because of their closeness to sources and their critical sense. His handwritten estate, which was purchased for the Schwäbisch Gmünd City Archives in 1942, is even more extensive . In addition to the local history of the Gmünder and Ulm area, researching regional Christian art was a concern of his. Therefore, from 1916 to 1926 he was also the editor of the archive for Christian art .
