Riesbürg is a municipality in the Ostalb district in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Geographical location

The municipality of Riesbürg is located in the Nördlinger Ries about five kilometers west of Nördlingen .

Community structure

The municipal area consists of two parts spatially separated by the Bopfinger area, a northern part with the districts Pflaumloch and Goldburghausen and the southern part with Utzmemmingen.

The municipality of Riesbürg with the formerly independent municipalities of Goldburghausen , Pflaumloch and Utzmemmingen includes five villages, farms and houses. The village of Goldburghausen belongs to the former community of Goldburghausen. The village of Pflaumloch belongs to the former municipality of Pflaumloch. The former municipality of Utzmemmingen includes the village of Utzmemmingen, the Altenbürg farmstead and the Ringlesmühle house, as well as the abandoned village of Rysmühle .

The community borders in the north on Kirchheim am Ries , in the east on the Bavarian city of Nördlingen , in the south on the city of Neresheim and in the west on the city of Bopfingen .

history

Territorial reform

In the course of the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg on April 1, 1972, the Goldburghausen community and on January 1, 1973 the Utzmemmingen community were incorporated into Pflaumloch. The municipality of Pflaumloch was renamed Riesbürg on July 25, 1973. Riesbürg is an artificial name that refers to the nearby Nördlinger Ries . The syllable Bürg relates to former castles and fortresses in the Utzmemmingen district. The Alte Bürg is still there today .

The districts of today's municipality have all belonged to Württemberg since the beginning of the 19th century , where they were assigned to the Oberamt Neresheim . In 1938 they came to the Aalen district , which became part of the new Ostalb district as a result of the 1973 district reform .

Plum hole

Directly on the B 29 between Aalen and Nördlingen is the administrative seat of the municipality with around 1000 residents and around 350 industrial jobs.

The place Pflunloch was first mentioned in 1246 , but at least 1503 the place itself was called Pflaulach. By the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 Oettingen-Wallerstein u. a. the Kirchheim am Ries monastery was awarded, including many properties in Pflaumloch. As part of the mediatization , the Oettingensche area first fell to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 and then to the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1810 through an exchange of territory . According to the description of the Oberamt Neresheim , 481 inhabitants lived in Pflaumloch in 1872, 171 of them Protestant and 125 Jewish.

Utzmemmingen

Utzmemmingen is surrounded by Bavarian towns at the foot of the Swabian Alb. With around 1100 inhabitants, the place is the largest in the Riesbürg municipality. Since 1972 the place has been allowed to advertise as a state-approved resort. Utzmemmingen was first mentioned in a document in 852. Like Pflaumloch, the town came to the Kingdom of Bavaria due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1806 , but was then transferred to the Kingdom of Württemberg four years later through an exchange of territory .

Goldburghausen

Goldburghausen is the smallest town in the municipality with around 300 inhabitants. It was first mentioned in a document in 1276. The place belonged to the imperial city of Nördlingen for a long time and came to the Kingdom of Württemberg at the beginning of the 19th century .

Religions

Christianity

The district of Utzmemmingen is predominantly Catholic, as belonging to the Teutonic Order of Kapfenburg prevented the introduction of the Reformation . The center of the parish is St. Martin's Church. The church was built in 1742 in place of a previous church that had to be demolished due to its dilapidation. In Pflaumloch there is both a Protestant ( Pflaumloch parish ) and a Roman Catholic parish. In Goldburghausen, however, the Reformation took hold as early as 1543. The Protestant St. Michaels Church of the parish of Goldburghausen can already be traced back to the pre-Reformation period.

Judaism

Jews had lived in Pflaumloch since 1487. The synagogue was established in 1703. It burned down in 1802, and the reconstruction was inaugurated in 1846. The owner donated the house to the community in 1907, which has used it as a town hall since 1963. The Jewish cemetery established in 1840 still exists today.

The community is a member of the agreed administrative community of the city of Bopfingen .

In summer 2011, Willibald Freihart was elected to succeed Günther Neumeister, who retired on September 30, 2011 after 20 years in office.

Municipal council

After the 2014 local elections, the local council has 12 members, three women and nine men. All members belong to free electoral associations.

There is a long sponsorship of the Bundeswehr units stationed in Ellwangen . The annual highlight is the guest shooting at the sponsoring company.

Town twinning

In 1973 the then independent municipality and today's suburb of Utzmemmingen initiated a partnership with the French city of Esvres-sur-Indre in Touraine (today's Indre-et-Loire department ). In recognition of this contribution to Europe, the municipality of Riesbürg was awarded the European flag on October 15, 1993.

Museums

The Goldberg Museum is located in Goldburghausen. Here an exhibition provides information about the settlement of the Goldberg in the Stone Age.

Open caves

On the outskirts of Utzmemmingen, but already on Nördlinger Flur, are the large and small Ofnet caves . At the beginning of the 20th century, human skulls from the Stone Age were found in the caves. All skulls faced west.

Römerhof

At the foot of the Ofnet caves are the remains of a Roman manor ( villa rustica ). The restored floor plans of the former buildings can still be seen.

Goldberg

The Goldberg rises between Plaumloch and Goldburghausen. Many rare animals and plants can be found in the nature reserve around the Goldberg and the adjacent heath.

Ear apex

The 652 meter high ear peak is located on the edge of the Ries between Utzmemmingen and Bopfingen-Härtsfeldhausen.

Sports

The community has an extensive range of sports and leisure activities such as football, tennis and judo. Some of these are operated successfully in various associations.

Economy and Infrastructure

The structures in the community are more rural. In addition to numerous handicraft businesses, there are also several industrial companies in the municipality. These companies are mainly located in the main town, Pflaumloch.

traffic

Federal road 29 ( Waiblingen - Nördlingen ) runs through Riesbürg . Regional trains stop at the Pflaumloch stop on the Riesbahn ( Aalen - Donauwörth ) . This former train station was dismantled into a stop in the 1980s .

education

There is a primary school each in Pflaumloch and Utzmemmingen . There is also a Roman Catholic (in Utzmemmingen) and Protestant (in Pflaumloch) kindergarten .
