Alexander Pflaum , from 1881 von Pflaum (born June 4, 1839 in Pflaumloch ; † December 15, 1911 in Berlin ), was a German banker and patron .

Life

Alexander Pflaum was born in Pflaumloch as the eldest son of the Jewish grain trader Elias Pflaum. Elias Pflaum founded the Pflaum bank in Stuttgart in 1855 . His son Alexander completed a bank training in Frankfurt am Main , Berlin , Brussels and Darmstadt . In 1865, Alexander Pflaum and his brother Moritz became partners in his father's bank, which was renamed Württembergische Bankanstalt in 1881 and merged with Württembergische Vereinsbank . Alexander Pflaum, a promoter of the Württemberg industry, was ennobled by the king in 1881 and appointed a secret councilor of commerce. In 1907, Pflaum became an honorary citizen of the Pflaumloch community. There he donated a synagogue that was later used as a community hall. A street in Pflaumloch was named after him.

The childless Kommerzienrat Pflaum, who with Marie Clementine nee Emden was married, and when he died in 1911, he left behind a sizable shareholding and a large art collection, some of which was bequeathed to the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart . He donated part of his fortune to the construction of a nursing home in Stuttgart and the central management for charity in Württemberg . His villa on Falkert Straße, acquired in 1877, was demolished in 1914 and a school building was built on the property.

Inge Barth-Grözinger, a high school teacher from Ellwang, wrote a novel for young people entitled Alexander , which was published in 2009 , based on the biography of Alexander Pflaum .
