Rudolf of Batrun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf von Batrun ( French: Rostain de Boutron ; † after 1282) was lord of Batrun in the county of Tripoli .

He was the eldest son of Jacob von Batrun and his wife Clarence von Hazart, daughter of Wilhelm von Hazart . His father was the younger brother of Wilhelm II , Lord von Batrun. After the childless death of his cousin Johann von Batrun around 1277, Rudolf inherited the castle and dominion of Batrun from him.

His signature on a document dated February 26, 1282 is the last documentary evidence that he was still alive. At that time he was present at Nephin Castle as a witness when the Grand Master of the Templar Order Guillaume de Beaujeu brought charges against Guido II , Lord of Gibelet , to Count Bohemond IV of Tripoli .

After the city of Tripoli had been conquered by the Mamluks under Sultan Qalawun in 1289 , and the latter now threatened Batrun, Batrun was evacuated without a fight and rule finally fell to the Muslims.
