Rudolf von Drachenfels , also Rudolph von Drachenfels (born June 4, 1582 in Markvippach ; † February 1, 1656 ), was a German court marshal and Weimar councilor. He also went down in history as an occasional poet.

Life

Drachenfels was the son of Hauptmann zu Mittau and Dobeln in Courland, Philipp von Drachenfels, and his wife Euphemia von Rosen. He accompanied Princes Johann Ernst the Younger of Saxe-Weimar and Friedrich of Saxe-Weimar as court and chamber junker on June 7, 1608 to study at the University of Jena . His own matriculation was recorded there on September 1, 1608. Later, at the age of 31, Drachenfels had to leave with Johann Ernst the Younger in 1613 on his one-year Cavalier tour through France, Great Britain and the Netherlands. After his return, Drachenfels lived at the Weimar court as a chamberlain.

As such, he married Susanna Sybilla von Werthern in 1618. With her he had two sons, Wolf Friedrich von Drachenfels and Ernst Wilhelm von Drachenfels, and a daughter, Sophia († 1645). In August 1639, Drachenfels was envoy to Duke Johann Ernst of Saxe-Weimar . On the occasion of this mission, Diederich von dem Werder suggested him as a member of the Fruit- Bringing Society , and Drachenfels was accepted under the name of the shocker .

Rudolf von Drachenfels was recorded with the number 344 in the Köthen Society Book of the Fruit Bringing Society. This is also where his motto is the gall above . As an emblem he was given peanuts < Lathyrus tuberosus (L.)>.

On the occasion of his initiation, Drachenfels wrote the following rhyme law:

"Poke the peanuts out of the bile properly,
if they are prepared for the doctor.
I puff 'therefore' say: You should poke the anger bile
, but be
careful that sin does not happen in words and commands
Vnd vice-haffte werck 'in Vnß to be practiced:
To use who' only the fruit is harvested, whom
God's good spirit to love 'had led.

From 1647 to 1655, Drachenfels held the office of court marshal and councilor at the court of Weimar. He died at the age of 74.
