Rudolf von St. Trond , Latin also Rudolfus Sancti Trudonis , (* around 1070 in Moustier-sur-Sambre near Jemeppe-sur-Sambre ; † March 10, 1138 in the monastery of St. Trond ) was a Walloon Benedictine monk, clergyman, musicologist and composer .

life and work

Rudolf was trained in Liège. Then he entered the Burtscheid monastery . From around 1100 he lived in the monastery of St. Trond. In 1108 he became abbot there. In 1121, as a supporter of the Pope and the cluniac reform, he fled from Heinrich V to the St. Pantaleon monastery in Cologne , where he also became abbot. In 1123 he returned to St. Trond and was again abbot.

Rudolf is very likely the author of the chorale tract Quaestiones in musica , which was written around 1120. He also wrote the Chronicle Gesta abbatum Trudonensium for the period from 618 to 1108. He also wrote sacred compositions, poetry and letters.
