Rudolf von der Aa

Rudolf von der Aa (born October 17, 1913 in Wiederitzsch ; † June 13, 1991 in Berlin ) was a German veterinarian .

Life

Von der Aa studied veterinary medicine and received his doctorate in 1951 at the University of Leipzig with the dissertation A contribution to the theory of adsorption in small pets . After working as an assistant in microbiology , he was appointed chief veterinarian and acting head of the veterinary department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the GDR in 1955. In 1956 he became senior assistant at the Institute for Animal Hygiene at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1957 he was a full professor and director of the Institute for Veterinary Hygiene at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

On August 14, 1961, on page 1 of the SED party newspaper Neues Deutschland, an article by Rudolf von der Aa appeared, in which he described the closing of the border to West Berlin the day before as "correct and necessary" .

In the 1967/1968 term of office, Rudolf von der Aa was Dean of the Veterinary Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin.

In 1960 he received the Honored Veterinarian Award . He was also awarded the GDR Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze (1973) and the Hufeland medal in gold. In 1981 the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Leipzig awarded him an honorary doctorate .
