The Rotherstraße in the Rudolfkiez

As Rudolf neighborhood (also: Stralauer Kiez ) refers to an area of the Berlin district in Friedrichshain in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg .

It is located at the southern end of Friedrichshain. The area is bordered on all sides by wide traffic routes and is therefore clearly separated from the surrounding residential areas. It is bounded to the west by Warschauer Straße , to the north and east by rail lines and to the south by Stralauer Allee and the Spree . The Modersohn Bridge over the railway tracks connects the residential area with the parts of Friedrichshain adjoining to the north.

The residential area was largely created at the beginning of the 20th century. With the establishment of the incandescent lamp factory of Deutsche Gasglühlicht AG (from 1920 Osram main plant and later the seat of VEB Narva Kombinat Berliner Glühlampenwerk ) there was a need for living space in the area. The Koch brothers erected a number of residential buildings around Rotherstrasse and Rudolfplatz around 1904.

The center is the Rudolfplatz with the Zwingli Church, built in 1903 by Jürgen Kröger . The ensemble around Rudolfplatz with the Zwingli Church and a number of residential buildings built by Sigismund Koch around 1904 is a listed building , as is the Auergesellschaft industrial complex , which later became the Osram and Narva works.

There are sports fields, a school farm, as well as a few daycare centers and smaller pubs. You can find mostly old buildings, some renovated and some new ones. The small, quiet streets have little traffic.

The western part is also called Oberbaum City . South of Stralauer Allee on the Spree is the former east port. MTV and Universal have moved into their headquarters here in the old stores of the incandescent lamp factory .
