August Gottlob Ferdinand Schirmer (born May 14, 1791 in Hartmannsdorf (now Polish: Jarogniewice) in the Freystadt i. Lower Silesian district ; † March 29, 1863 in Greifswald ) was a German theologian and university professor.

Ferdinand Schirmer was a son of the preacher Christian Gottlob Schirmer (1754-1830) and his wife Johanna Eleonore Seydel (1761-1831). He was named Dr. phil. Privatdozent at the University of Wroclaw and was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD. In 1827 Schirmer was elected professor at the University of Greifswald and here in 1834 rector.

In 1847 he became superintendent.

He married Emilie Susanne Louise Caroline von Richthofen (1794–1834) in Breslau in 1821 . The son Johannes Theodor (1827–1904) became Professor of Law in Königsberg , the son Friedrich Rudolf (1831–1896) became Professor of Medicine in Greifswald.
