August Friedrich Barkow (born January 28, 1791 in Trent on Rügen , † March 4, 1861 in Greifswald ) was a German legal scholar in Greifswald.

Life

August Friedrich Barkow was a son of the preacher Christian Joachim Friedrich Barkow (1755-1836) and brother of Hans Karl Barkow . From 1807 he studied at the University of Greifswald , the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the new Kgl. University of Berlin Law . He was a member of the Corps Pomerania Göttingen (1810) and the Corps Pomerania Greifswald (1815). From 1813 to 1816 he was the tutor of the later Prussian Prime Minister Adolf Heinrich von Arnim-Boitzenburg . Soon after his doctorate as Dr. iur. in 1817 he became a private lecturer in Berlin . Since 1819 at the University of Greifswald Associate Professor of Criminal Law , Criminal Procedure Law and Roman Law , he became 1827 as a full professor appointed. In the years 1833, 1835 and 1849 he was rector of the university. In 1838 he was appointed to the Privy Council of Justice , in 1839 to the consistorial council and a member of the Greifswald consistory . In 1819 he married Christine Caroline Leopoldine Homeyer, daughter of the Wolgast businessman Johann Friedrich Homeyer and sister of the Germanist Carl Gustav Homeyer .
