Rudolph Chimelli

Rudolph Maximilian Chimelli (born April 24, 1928 in Munich ; † April 22, 2016 ) was a German journalist and author .

Life

Chimelli first studied law and economics . In 1964 he went to Beirut as a correspondent , from where he reported on the Arab world for eight years . In 1972 he moved to Moscow and from 1979 to 1998 was a correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Paris . He was also considered a specialist in Iran .

He has received several awards for his reports, which he has repeatedly published in book form. In 1986 the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers awarded him the Theodor Wolff Prize . In 1992 he received the Joseph Roth Prize . In 2007 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .
