After the formation of a new infantry regiment, he became its commander and took part in the War of the Spanish Succession from 1701. In 1707 he acquired the feudal estates located in Oberheldrungen from the Trebra siblings , which included not only land but also a desolate and undeveloped knight's place with six official houses, written offices and inheritance courts above. When he actively returned to the War of Succession, he was fatally wounded in a skirmish near Brussels on November 8, 1709.
