history

In 1777/78 Duke Friedrich Heinrich Wilhelm had the road from Glücksburg in the direction of Wees, which ultimately leads to Flensburg , expanded. At Ruhetal he apparently also had a wooden bridge built over the Schwennau river there. In 1780 Ludwig Johannsen built the Ruhethal brewery and distillery. It is uncertain which valley area the name Ruhetal referred to at that time. In a legend written down in 1929, the Rudekloster was also called the "resting monastery". The brewing and distilling justice took place in 1784. In 1854 the topographer Johannes von Schröder mentioned in his brief description of the place Glücksburg Ruhetal as the only brewery and distillery location of the place. The Ruhetal house served as a restaurant until 1858. On the map of the cartographer Franz Geerz , the said year 1858, "Ruhethal" was already marked. In the following fifteen years, Ruhetal served as a gardening shop with agriculture. The two-storey courtyard building with a half -hip roof has served as a hotel since 1873 . In 1874 the Ruhethal farm apparently had 23 permanent residents. The place "Ruhethal" was named on the map of the Prussian Land Survey from 1879. Since 1893 there was a holding point on the Flensburg circular railway near Ruhetal . The "Haltethal stop" was entered on the updated area map from 1926. The stop was also part of the infrastructure of the Flensburg tram , because the tram had been using the route to Glücksburg since 1925.

Gradually, the name of the Gasthaus Ruhetal with its associated courtyards was also transferred to the surrounding area. The connecting path from the south-east riding stables "Sorgefrei " ( location ) to Ruhetal was named Ruhetaler Weg. On newer area maps, the area name Ruhetal can also be found in the area of the Schwennau-Arena, i.e. the sports field area in the angle between Uferstraße and Flensburger Straße ( location ). In 1927 a gymnasium in the Heimatschutz style was built at the beginning of the Ruhetaler Weg (old gymnasium). In 1983 the larger rowing hall, which serves as a sports and event hall, was built right next to it. In March 2001 the Gasthaus Ruhetal (with the address: Flensburger Straße 2) was demolished. In 2002, today's Glücksburg Park Residence was built in its place, a health center until 2012 and a care center since then (with the address: Ruhetaler Weg 2a). The mentioned riding stables, “Sorgefrei” with the address Ruhetaler Weg 30, were given up in 2016. The “Alter Reiterhof” residential area is to be built there over the next few years.
