history

From 1618 the church was commissioned as a pilgrimage church by the Würzburg prince-bishop Johann Gottfried I von Aschhausen . Because of the beginning of the Thirty Years War and the death of the client, however, the church was never completed.

The ruin Aura as a destination

In 1900 a restaurant was built right next to the ruin, which was connected to another building inside the ruin via a breakthrough. In 1959 the restaurant with a terrace, which still exists today, was built further away from the ruins. Some well-known personalities visited the ruin, such as Chancellor Otto von Bismarck , the painter Adolph von Menzel and Federal President Theodor Heuss .
