history

The castle was built by the Lords of Blankenstein in the 12th century and Bertold von Blankenstein is mentioned in a document in 1182. The castle was owned by the noble free von Dapfen and the Counts of Württemberg .

On April 4, 1251, the marriage of another Berthold von Blankenstein to Elisabeth von Steinheim is approved by Pope Innocent IV . It should be noted that on the same day the Pope gave his approval to found a monastery in Steinheim an der Murr . Due to the fact that Elisabeth von Steinheim was already married once, it is assumed that the marriage permit had to be supported by the foundation of the monastery.

The castle fell into disrepair around 1442. In 1977 the rest of the keep was secured. In addition to the remainder of the keep on a surface area of around 7 by 7 meters, small remains of a rampart and a ditch have been preserved from the former castle complex .
