Ruin near Oberreut

The ruin at Oberreut is an Outbound Turmhügelburg ( moth ) in the form of a wall-like mound in the so-called "upper Reuter forest" area near the present Oberreut in Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg .

Assumptions suggest that it is a tower hill castle from the 11th century. According to the current state of knowledge (December 2010) it belonged to the county of Forchheim (Rheinstetten) . The castle was originally - probably for strategic reasons (proximity to an old imperial road with east-west route) - built by the local nobility in the form of a defensive tower with a surrounding moat . Whether the Counts of Forchheim are the builders, or whether the castle was even their ancestral seat, is still unknown, but it would not be unlikely, as the nearby Daxlanden was also dependent on Forchheim for a long time. In an early topographic map from France, the castle was named as a chateau between Grünwinkel and Forchheim. Oberreut did not yet exist at the time of construction, the district belonged to the municipality of Bulach until 1961 .

The moth is believed to have been destroyed in one of the numerous wars and feuds in the region centuries ago. The remains were rediscovered in 2006 by a local hobby archaeologist. Only a mound of earth with a surrounding ditch can be seen on the surface of the former facility . The exact position is currently not published for security reasons ( metal detector gang , vandalism ). The tower hill castle was included in the list of monuments of the city of Karlsruhe. According to information provided by the Karlsruhe Regional Council in 2010, the facility, which has no visible remains of the wall, does not currently require any further conservation.
