Ruislip Gardens is an above-ground London Underground station in the London Borough of Hillingdon . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 5 on West End Road. In 2013, 1.00 million passengers used the station served by the Central Line . Nearby is the RAF Northolt air base , around one kilometer west of one of the Central Line's workshops.

The station has an island platform. The terminus of some trains going to or from the workshop is here instead of in West Ruislip . A single track branches off at the workshop and leads over a hairpin to the Metropolitan Line at Ickenham ; However, this is only used for a few maneuvers. Chiltern Railways trains pass South Ruislip without stopping on tracks that run parallel to the Underground.

In 1906 the Great Western Railway and the Great Central Railway jointly built the Great Western and Great Central Joint Railway (GW & GCJR), a railway line towards High Wycombe . A stop was opened on July 9, 1934. As part of the New Works Program of the London Passenger Transport Board , decided in 1935, an additional double lane was laid along the GW & GCJR after the end of the Second World War to enable the underground service between North Acton and West Ruislip . The Central Line operated the route from November 21, 1948. British Rail trains stopped here for the last time in 1958, after which the excess platform was demolished.

The poet John Betjeman immortalized the station in his poem Middlesex :

"Gaily into Ruislip Gardens runs the red electric train ..." ( The red electric train happily arrives in Ruislip Gardens ... )
