Western Romanian Carpathians
As a geomorphological term, the Western Romanian Carpathians (also Romanian Western Carpathians ) are part of the Carpathian Mountains . In Romania this area is called Carpații Occidentali (Western Carpathians). In the other Carpathian countries, however, the western Carpathians denotes the north-western part of the Carpathian Arc (located in Slovakia , Hungary and Poland ).
The Western Romanian Carpathians consist of
- the Apuseni Mountains (also Transylvanian Western Carpathians ),
- the Poiana-Ruscă Mountains and
- the Banat Mountains .
They are almost exclusively in Romania; only the Vršac Mountains, which are part of the Banat Mountains , are on Serbian territory.
