Rumerode is a single lying former estate of Birkenfelde in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

location

The courtyard was built at the intersection of two old streets (Diotweg), later Diebesweg or Heerstraße, below the Hennefeste (447 m) on a small red sandstone plateau northwest of Birkenfelde. About three kilometers to the southwest are the former manor sites of Oberstein and Unterstein . The Saumühle in the western Steinatal still belonged to the manor district .

history

The homestead was first mentioned in a document on September 28, 1197. 1236 it is mentioned as Rabodenrothe , which can be interpreted as clearing a Ratboto . After it became desolate , the estate was built. This homestead also once belonged to the aristocratic Hanstein family . In 1945 it was expropriated as part of the land reform and the manor house was demolished in 1972. The existing cellar and foundation remains are considered area monuments.
