action

In the Scottish city of Fraserburgh, the young men try to escape their everyday lives through nightly drag races . Finnie was such a boy once, but now he works in the fish factory and it's his son's turn. His marriage to his wife Katie is no longer what it used to be. When he learns from his son Kid that his girlfriend Kelly is pregnant, he fears that he is well on the way to a life similar to his own. One night when he borrows Ki's car because his own is broken and is mistaken for his son, he uses the speedster for one last race.

production

Scott Graham directed and wrote the screenplay. Like his short film Shell from 2007, which served as the framework for his 2012 film drama of the same name, Graham also adapted one of his earlier works for Run . He enriched his short film Born to Run from 2005. The title of the film refers to the song Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen from 1975, which was released on the album of the same name .

Mark Stanley took on the role of Finnie. Amy Manson , Marli Siu , Anders Hayward and Scott Murray can also be seen in other roles .

From the end of April to the beginning of May 2019, the film was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival and celebrated its world premiere here. It was released in cinemas in the United Kingdom on March 13, 2020.

Reviews

Variety's Guy Lodge writes that at the heart of the film is the unlikely encounter between Finnie, an outgrown boy, and Kelly, his son's pregnant friend who is about to give birth to his grandchild. They recognize in one another their stunted hopes in one another, and even if the relationship between them is not very romantic, what they both miss in their respective relationships will reveal itself.

Stephen Dalton of The Hollywood Reporter says Scott Graham quoted Run from the George Lucas classic American Graffiti and started the film on a solid premise, but lacks the dramatic power to pull the story out of second gear. Most of the short action in the film takes place in a narrow car interior, with Finnie and Kelly barely talking to each other. Finnie's anger against existence, which seems to be overwhelming him, is so poorly explained that his early midlife crisis looks more like a mad man-baby tantrum than serious psychodrama, and as an emotional drama it lacks drive or direction, so Dalton. Run have a raw Scottish taste that feels uncompromising. Although the film only lasts 78 minutes, it feels longer.
