Runestone from Kjula ås

The runestone of Kjula ås ( Samnordisk runtextdatabas Sö 106), in Södermanland in Sweden , stands on the old road between Eskilstuna and Strängnäs , next to the hill called “Kungshållet” or “Tingshögen” in old texts. When Runestone are several stone monuments and grave mounds, but the cemetery originally extended probably the Runestone Högstena (Sö 105) out.

The runestone text reads:

“Alríkr, Sigríðr's son, erected the stone in memory of his father Spjót, who fought in the west. He knew all the castles on the route. "

description

The stone is one of 30 "England rune stones" that refer to the Viking voyages to the west. There are indications that the largest rune stone in Södermanland is connected to the Ramsund carving from Ramsundsberget (no. Sö 101) and to the rune stone from Bro in Uppland (no. U 617), one of the two Hakon Jarl rune stones . The stone has an interesting inscription, the interpretation of which is uncertain. Runologists such as Sophus Bugge (1833–1907), Erik Brate (1857–1924), Otto von Friesen (1870–1942) and Elias Wessén (1889–1981) have expressed themselves differently.

The name Spjót (spear) is not found in any other inscription or context.

Nearby lies Åsbyblocket .
